In lesson 1 we learned the note middle C.

In lesson 3 we learned the neighbor and skips from middle C that touched the staff.

In this lesson we’ll learn the neighbors and skips from middle C that require an additional ledger line.

Looking at the image below, you’ll see that we can write notes in the treble staff that descend into the range of the bass staff notes.  And conversely, we can write notes on the bass staff that ascend into the range of the treble staff notes.

TREBLE STAFF INNER LEDGER NOTES:

  • The space note neighbor below middle C in treble staff touches one ledger line and is B
  • The line note skip below middle C in bass staff uses 2 ledger lines and is A (The same piano key A that can be written on the top line of the bass staff.)

BASS STAFF INNER LEDGER NOTES:

  • The space note neighbor above middle C in bass staff touches one ledger line and is D.
  • The line note skip above middle C in bass staff uses 2 ledger lines and is E (The same E that can also be written on the bottom line of the treble staff.)

We use middle C to guide us to all of these notes.  Take a moment to study the image above and then complete the Lesson 13 the worksheets in the coursebook and the Note Rush drills.
